Weapon and parts
MG5
The MG5 comes in two versions:
| Prefab | Fitted by default |
|---|---|
| MG5 | 4x scope |
| MG5 (no attachments) | nothing, rails free |
The MG5 fires 7.62x51 mm NATO from the 100-round belt pouch with a muzzle velocity of 810 m/s, like the real 550 mm barrel. The feed cover is hinged at the front like the real weapon.
Rate of fire
Like the real MG5, the gas regulator has three settings: 640, 720 (default) and 800 rounds per minute.
- Hold R (inspection mode) and select the gas regulator at the front end of the gas cylinder under the barrel. Each use turns it to the next setting.
- The fire mode switch only toggles between safe and the set rate of fire. The weapon starts on fire.
- The selector lever shows the setting: it points at the red symbol on full auto and at the white symbol on safe.
The rate of fire setting is still being tested.
Belt
- The belt pouch holds 100 rounds. There are five belts:
| Belt | Rounds |
|---|---|
| standard | DM111 ball, every 5th round a DM21 tracer |
| Ball | DM111 ball only |
| Tracer | DM21 tracer only |
| AP | M61 armour-piercing only |
| AP/Tracer | M61 armour-piercing, every 5th round a DM21 tracer |
- The DM21 tracer burns out at about 770 m.
- You can tell the rounds in the belt by their tip: tracer red, AP black, ball unpainted (tombac).
- The belt jerks forward with every shot. The rounds come out of the pouch and the belt gets shorter as you fire.
- Belt indicator: the black plate with a red stripe in the slot on the top cover (in front of the round screw) sticks out while a belt with rounds is loaded and dips with every shot. When the belt is empty or no belt is loaded, it sinks into the slot.
- Only the MG5 belt pouches fit. M60 boxes do not fit the MG5, and the pouches do not fit the M60.
4x scope
The scope shows a real 4x magnified picture. The reticle is matched to the in-game 7.62 ammunition and zeroed at 300 m: up to 300 m, aim with the centre.
| Range | Holdover below centre | Label |
|---|---|---|
| 400 m | 1.1 mrad | 4 |
| 500 m | 2.3 mrad | |
| 600 m | 3.7 mrad | 6 |
| 700 m | 5.4 mrad | |
| 800 m | 7.2 mrad | 8 |
| 900 m | 9.3 mrad | |
| 1000 m | 11.7 mrad | 10 |
- Each holdover is a horizontal bar. Its width equals 0.5 m at that range, so you can also use it to estimate range.
- The ticks on the horizontal line are 1 mrad apart (2 to 20 mrad, every 5th longer) and serve as lead for moving targets.
Front sight
The front sight folds back onto the barrel shroud, for example so it stays out of the way with a scope. Hold the inspection key and use the action at the front sight ("Fold front sight" / "Raise front sight").
Muzzle
The MG5 has its original flash hider fixed to the barrel. There is no suppressor for the real MG5, so the weapon has no muzzle slot and takes no muzzle attachments.
Rails and grips
| Rail | Takes |
|---|---|
| top | scope, sights |
| bottom | vertical foregrip, lights, lasers |
| bottom front | lights, lasers |
| left | lights, lasers |
| right | lights, lasers |
| left (grip) | assault grip |
- Foregrip: vertical grip for the bottom rail.
- Assault grip: horizontal grip on the left side, for firing from the hip.
Both grips make the MG5 easier to control:
| Grip | Muzzle rise | Sideways drift | Rearward kick |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foregrip | −15 % | −20 % | −5 % |
| Assault grip | −10 % | −10 % | −10 % |
| Stance | Foregrip | Assault grip |
|---|---|---|
| Standing | hand on the grip | hand on the grip |
| Kneeling | hand on the handguard | hand under the weapon |
| Prone | hand on the grip | hand on the handguard |
When kneeling, the shoulder sits further back and the arm cannot reach the grips.
